This full day on leadership is centered on the curriculum that constitutes the very work of leaders. Participants will examine and discuss key elements such as relationships, vision, change, decision-making and other facets.
Key concepts and dialogue will center on the following:
- Examine how a leader’s essence is the source of their vision and influence.

Example I: The Leadership Challenge: Purpose, Passion and Politics
Overview:
Leaders have the opportunity and challenge to make their schools and districts significant places of learning for students and adults who serve the students. The agenda is ambitious with defining and achieving high expectations and standards, motivating teachers and staff, and dealing with the political realities at the local and state levels.
Success can be achieved if leaders focus on three significant things:
- Build capacity for a compelling sense of PURPOSE;
- Recognize the significance of inspiration and modeling of PASSION;
- Understand the dynamics and merits of POLITICS
Session One:
- Focus on the power and promise of establishing a sense of purpose.
- Guiding questions: What should our purpose be as leaders in order to fulfill the vision and mission? What behaviors do leaders exhibit that impact the quality of the learning environment?
- Participants will have the opportunity to engage with one another, drawing upon their own experiences as they increase their clarity and sense of purpose for their work.
Session Two:
- The challenges, frustrations, and potential related to dealing with the political arena will be explored.
- The leaders’ “political quotient”.
- Demonstrating passion is the fuel for achieving work. Dr. Chavez will offer inspiring ways to foster your influence with employees, colleagues and community.
